Appliance error codes
An error code on a washing machine, fridge, dishwasher or dryer tells you which part or system has a fault, like water not coming in, water not draining, a leak, or a heater or motor problem. Sydney Appliance Service repairs Samsung, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Bosch and other major brands across Sydney, and these guides explain what each brand’s codes mean and what you can safely check yourself.
Every guide is based on real repair requests from our own job records, not just the manufacturer’s list. Pick your brand and appliance below.

What should I do when my appliance shows an error code?
- Write down the code exactly as it appears, including letters, numbers and any dash (E61-03 and E6103 are the same code on a Bosch, but EF0 and EF3 are different codes on an Electrolux).
- Find your model number. It’s usually on a sticker inside the door, on the door edge or at the back. See how to find your model and serial number.
- Look up the code in the guide for your brand and do the simple checks, like the water tap, the hoses, the filter and the door.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a few minutes, then restart it. That clears a code caused by a one off glitch, like a short power drop.
- If the code comes back, book a repair. Restarting it over and over won’t fix a real fault.
When should I turn the appliance off straight away?
Turn it off at the wall and stop using it if there’s water on the floor, a leak code is showing, you can smell burning or gas, or it keeps tripping the power. For a leak, also turn off the water tap to the appliance. Then book a repair.
What we see most across all brands
We went through more than 900 recent repair requests from our own job records across seven brands: Samsung, Hisense, Beko, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Electrolux (including Westinghouse and AEG) and Glen Dimplex. Washing machines and fridges came up most, followed by dishwashers and dryers.
The same handful of faults appear on every brand:
- Not draining. Usually a blocked filter first, then the drain pump. On washing machines and dishwashers it’s one of the most common codes we see.
- Leaks, from door seals, internal hoses or the pump, often with a leak or anti flood code.
- Not filling with water, where the tap and hoses are fine but the inlet valve has failed.
- Fridges not cooling or freezers not freezing, often because of ice build up from a defrost fault or a fan that has stopped.
- Noise on the spin cycle from worn bearings, shock absorbers or something caught in the drum.
- No power or stopping mid cycle, usually a control board, door lock or power supply fault.
Most customers didn’t have a code on the display at all, just a symptom. If your appliance is doing any of the above, the guides for a washing machine that won’t drain, a washing machine leaking from underneath, a dishwasher that won’t drain and a fridge leaking water inside may help.

Frequently asked questions
What does an error code on an appliance mean?
It’s the appliance telling you which part or system has a problem, like the water supply, draining, the door lock, the heater or the electronics. Each brand uses its own codes, so look up the guide for your brand.
Can I reset an appliance error code myself?
Yes. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a few minutes and turn it back on. If the code comes back, there’s a real fault that needs fixing.
Is it safe to keep using an appliance with an error code?
Not if there’s a leak, a burning smell or it trips the power. Draining and filling codes are usually safe to leave switched off until it’s repaired.
Why does the same fault show different codes on different machines?
Manufacturers change their codes between models and years. For example, Samsung shows 4C on newer washing machines and 4E or nF on older ones for the same water supply fault.
Do you repair all brands?
We repair most major brands, including Samsung, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Haier, Hisense and Mitsubishi Electric. Call us with your brand and model and we’ll confirm.
